The holidays are brightened each year by citizens throughout Anaheim decorating their homes and businesses in spectacular fashion. To recognize this effort, Anaheim Beautiful announces the 2018 Holiday Lights Contest. Nominations are now open until Dec. 15.
Residential, commercial and organizational properties will be judged in the following categories:
Grand Prize—Miss Anaheim Beautiful’s Choice
Best Display Using LED Lights—Sponsored by Anaheim Public Utilities
Best Vintage Display
Best Animated or Musical Display
Best Themed Display
Best Retail/Commercial Display
Best Spirit of the Season
The WOW Factor Display
This year marks the third year that Anaheim Utilities has partnered with Anaheim Beautiful to sponsor the Best Display Using LED Lights Award. This is a good reminder for display makers to know the amount of energy saved by using LED lights. The nomination timeline aligns with Public Utilities Holiday Light Exchange Program which also runs through Dec. 15. A string of incandescent lights can be traded in at specific locations for a brand new string of LED lights. Exchanges will be available through Dec. 15 at two Anaheim libraries:
-Anaheim Central Library, 500 W Broadway, from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday
-Canyon Hills Library, 400 Scout Trail, from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.
More information can be found at http://www.Anaheim.net/utilities.
Another new tradition, started in 2015, involves the reigning Miss Anaheim Beautiful and a member of her court who will serve as judges and are responsible for selecting the grand prize display.
Nominations can be made online at http://anaheimbeautiful.org/holiday-lights-contest/or by emailing contact@anaheimbeautiful.org.
Please put “2018 Holiday Lights Contest” in the subject line and include name, email and phone of person nominating, address of nominated property and include a photo if possible.
Self-nominations are permitted. All nominations must be received by Friday, Dec. 15 at 5 p.m.
Winners will be announced before Christmas and presented to the Anaheim City Council at their first meeting of the New Year.
