Hyun Ae Kang, renowned artist, brings her powerful exhibit “Let There Be Light” to the Muzeo Carnegie Galleries now through March 31. Kang, who is based in California, has a strong following in Hong Kong, Miami, New York and Monaco, to list a few markets. She uses acrylic mixed media for her art and sculptures. Her earlier works were predominantly large sculptural pieces that explored the visual and textual contrasts between metal and wood, but in recent years she has ventured into other media, including ceramics and paintings. Her art reveals the wonder and the sublime residing within nature. This exhibit of 33 impressive works of art is open to the public at no cost. Muzeo Express continues in the Main Gallery through Jan. 20. So there is still time to celebrate the holiday season with model trains and the historical relics showcasing the history of trains in Southern California. Enjoy the special mini-exhibit highlighting Walt Disney’s lifelong love of trains. The exhibit features real historical artifacts from the collection of Walt Disney’s Carolwood Barn—a museum in Los Angeles’ Griffith Park dedicated to the exploration of Walt’s railroad legacy. This exhibit is made possible with the cooperation of Carolwood Foundation, Inc. The cost is $10 for adults, $7 for children 4-12 and $8 for students, seniors and military.
On Saturday, Jan. 26, Sylvia L. Chavez and friends will present “An Afternoon of Poetry.” Chavez is a writer raised in Santa Ana. She enjoys writing across a variety of genres, from poetry to personal essays to plays. Her work has most recently been featured in the Chicanas, Cholas Y Chisme Theater Festivals and the Teatro Frida Kahlo 10 Minute Theater Festival. Her recent productions include No Me Queda Otra, My Tia Luna’s Bedroom and La Bolita.
