The participants in the Creative Writing Project.

Altrusa in collaboration with the Anaheim Public Library and the Anaheim Elementary School District launched the Creative Writing Project district-wide. The Class of 2019’s 23 young authors were recognized at a recent AESD Board of Trustees meeting, which was attended by parents, teachers, school principals and representatives from elected officials.

The students were encouraged to write a 500-word essay on “Finding My Voice—Telling My Story.” The essays were judged by members of the APL Foundation and Board, Altrusans, PTA members and teachers not participating in the project.

A winning author was selected at each school.

The zine will be available in all Anaheim Public Libraries and at all school libraries. Representatives from Congressman Lou Correa, Assemblyman Tom Daly and Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva’s office were in attendance to recognize the authors. The Class of 2019 authors will be presented to the Anaheim City Council in November.
