Elementary school students, in partnership with Operation Clean Slate, unveiled a mural depicting pedestrian safety

At the end of last year, Centralia Elementary School unveiled a beautiful new mural with a focus on pedestrian safety. Under the guidance of Michael Howard, Executive Director of Operation Clean Slate, and funded with a grant from State Farm Insurance, 25 Centralia Elementary students painted this wonderful new gift to the school community. The mural depicts the importance of driver awareness as they approach a crosswalk. Busy Bee, the Centralia Elementary School mascot, is highlighted in the mural that also features students walking safely using the crosswalk and acknowledging the stop sign. The mural is located inn the Centralia Elementary parking lot on the Lincoln Avenue access corner.

Operation Clean Slate’s mission is to involve students and the community in the creation of brightly colored murals that beautify school campuses and surrounding communities. The painted images created contain positive, beneficial and educational messages promoting topics such as good nutrition, wellness and pedestrian safety, prevention of substance use, fitness and environmental conservation. The mural at Centralia marks mural number 1303 for Operation Clean Slate, who has partnered with over 25,000 volunteers and produced murals throughout the United States and internationally.

Centralia Elementary School District is honored to be home to several Operation Clean Slate murals, with hopefully more to come to the schools. Centralia School and the Centralia community is very thankful for this new gift.
