Anaheim Beautiful has announced that Art in Public Places, a longstanding and well-loved program in Anaheim, is now under the purview of Anaheim Beautiful. Art in Public Places was adopted in the City of Anaheim as a key program of the Anaheim Arts Council which has recognized well over 200 art installations for more than half a century. With the dissolution of the Anaheim Arts Council last year, those who had brought the program to life have given Anaheim Beautiful the honor of keeping the program alive.
“With a mission to promote and preserve the beauty of our city, this program fits perfectly with our goals,” said Sandra Sagert, president of Anaheim Beautiful. “We are excited to embark on our first nomination process. We want to thank the members of the Anaheim Arts Council who dedicated hundreds of volunteer hours over the years to offer this important program to the citizens and visitors of Anaheim. We will take care to ensure that the integrity and tradition of Art in Public Places continues on.”
Eligibility criteria for nominated installations include:
-Located within Anaheim city boundaries
-Accessible to the general public
-No admission or cost associated with viewing the art
-Within the limits of public decency
-Artwork must be permanent
-Non-commercial
-Must be original
Nominations for the 2019 Art in Public Places Awards will be accepted from July 1 to August 16. Now, with a Council Resolution adopted in 2018, the public art sites are also sanctioned by the City of Anaheim. The awardees will be recognized at a City Council meeting with a reception following. The date will be announced by the close of the nomination process. Nomination forms are now available on Anaheim Beautiful’s website: www.anaheimbeautiful.org. Go to the “Get Involved” drop down menu. Those interested in nominating an art installation can also email: contact@anaheimbeautiful.org to receive a nomination form.
