The eyes of the baseball world were on the Angels late Friday night (July 19). Not to see them, but to see the masterful pitching they were up against. Mike Leake of the Seattle Mariners had not allowed a single opposing player to reach base going into the ninth inning.
The last time a perfect game—in which no hits are allowed, no walks are issued, there are no hit batsmen and no fielding errors—was pitched was in 2012.
It had been an o-fer night for everyone, including a rare one for Mike Trout.
But this time the perfect game wasn’t meant to be, as the Angels’ Luis Rengifo broke up the bid in the ninth with a hit.
In the end, the Angels lost 10-0 and Leake had pitched a one-hit shutout.
The Angels are back in action against the Dodgers tonight at 7:10 before welcoming in the Baltimore Orioles for a four-game series.
