Orange County’s biggest community event for Alzheimer’s awareness, Walk4ALZ, and a new 5K Run4ALZ raised more than $500,000 to fight Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in Orange County. More than 5,000 people showed their solidarity to defeat these deadly diseases by walking or running together at Angel Stadium in Anaheim on November 9.

“Walk4ALZ and Run4ALZ welcomed all, because Alzheimer’s affects everyone—families and entire communities—not just the person with the diagnosis,” said Jim McAleer, Alzheimer’s Orange County CEO and President. “Our event sponsors exemplify the true value of a community partner. We are grateful for their commitment to our mission, and commend them for leading the way in the fight against Alzheimer’s in Orange County.”

McAleer expressed the urgent need for Alzheimer’s care and support, as today there are more than 84,000 Orange County residents living with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia. That number is projected to more than triple by 2025. In Orange County alone, Alzheimer’s disease is the third leading cause of death.

Funds raised from the Walk4ALZ and the Run4ALZ directly support Alzheimer’s Orange County’s life-changing programs, support services and advocacy that benefit those living with memory loss, as well as the people who love and care for them.

Other leading event sponsors included: Healthpeak Properties, Discount Tire and Service Centers, and Irvine Clinical Research.
