The Philharmonic Society of Orange County is pleased to present violinist Daniel Hope and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra in an evening celebrating Vivaldi’s beloved “Four Seasons” on Wednesday, March 21 at 8 p.m. at Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, Segerstrom Center for the Arts. The program begins with a performance of Vivalid’s classic work in its original form followed by Max Richter’s “Four Seasons Recomposed,” a reinterpretation of the work that includes electronic soundscapes, which premiered at the Barbican Centre in London in 2012, and the recording of which went on to top the iTunes classical chart in the UK, Germany, and the United States. A pre-concert lecture by Brian Lauritzen will begin at 7 p.m.

British violinist Daniel Hope has toured the world as a virtuoso soloist for 25 years and is celebrated for his musical versatility as well as his dedication to humanitarian causes. Winner of the 2015 European Cultural Prize for Music, whose previous recipients include Daniel Barenboim, Placid Domingo and the Berlin Philharmonic, Hope appears as soloist with the world’s major orchestras and conductors, also directing many ensembles from the violin. Hope was appointed Music Director of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, effective with the 2016-17 season, succeeding Sir Roger Norrington.

Founded in 1945 by Edmond de Stoutz, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra cultivates a broad repertoire, ranging from baroque to classical and from romantic to contemporary music, and is now one of the leading ensembles of its kind. Under the direction of Edmond de Stoutz and later Howard Griffiths and Muhai Tang, the orchestra won international recognition. In its years under the leadership of world-acclaimed conductor Sir Roger Norrington, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra did much to establish and enhance its excellent reputation.
