Waymakers (formerly CSP) recognized two prosecutors from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) and one OCDA Investigator for their exemplary work and commitment to victims of crime at their annual Victims’ Rights Conference and luncheon recently at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Garden Grove.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Janine Madera of the Gang Unit and Deputy District Attorney Nancy Dupont of the Sexual Assault Unit and OCDA representative for CAST (Child Abuse Services Team), as well as OCDA Investigator Jay Pettibone of the Family Protection Unit, were each honored with Victim Service Awards for their outstanding advocacy of victims’ rights and dedication to serving crime victims and their families.
At the luncheon, Senior Deputy District Attorney Madera remarked, “I am incredibly honored to be recognized for my work pursuing justice on behalf of people whose lives have been shattered by senseless gang violence, and am grateful for the amazing team at the DA’s office, Haymakers, and in law enforcement that allow me to prosecute offenders without ever losing sight of the victims in these terrible crimes.”
Deputy District Attorney Dupont stated in part, “The best thing we can do for our victim especially in sexual assault and child molestation cases is to protect them, and how do we protect them? We separate them as long as possible from the perpetrator and we also prevent that person from abusing other kids. Thank you so much [for this award], it is a privilege.”
OCDA Investigator Pettibone thanked the OCDA, Waymakers, and the law enforcement community for their support and unwavering dedication to protecting and defending victims throughout the criminal justice process. He stated, “It especially means a lot coming from such a great group of professionals like [Waymakers]. I appreciate all your work and all that you do.”
“Our primary responsibility is to serve and protect the victims of crime and make sure justice is done,” said OCDA Tony Rackauckas. “I am extremely proud of the men and women of District Attorney’s Office, and all of those in law enforcement, who work tirelessly to protect the community, serve those harmed by crime, and defend their rights.”
Haymakers is a non-profit organization that offers prevention and intervention programs in Southern California and works in collaboration with the OCDA to provide comprehensive services to approximately 60,000 victims and witnesses, their families and communities in Orange County each year.
