Jazmine Alvarado’s Design comes to life on the GRIP Mobile.

Anaheim school student wins design contest for second consecutive year

Friday, Feb. 23 was a memorable day for Esther L. Walter School’s sixth-grade student Jazmine Alvarado. Jazmine is this year’s winner of the “Design a Ford” contest. The contest is a partnership between OC Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership (GRIP) and Ford Motor Company where students get to design the color scheme for the OC GRIP vehicle. Jazmine’s design was picked among over 140 entries across 14 Orange County Schools.

The GRIP team unveiled the new design during the Friday Spirit Assembly. District Attorney Investigator Tom Finley drove the GRIP vehicle onto campus with lights flashing and sirens glaring, and Jazmine rode along with him and the rest of the GRIP team.

Deputy District Attorney Lisa Grossman spoke to the students about this great achievement. Various GRIP members passed out goodies to all the students. Walter students made signs congratulating Jazmine. This is the second consecutive year in which a Magnolia School District student has won this contest.
