Resident Michael Mahony, one of the individuals behind the efforts to recall City Council Member Sunny Park, spoke at last week’s Council Meeting, saying he wanted to “set the record straight.” He said he and the other recall proponents are “vehemently opposed” to racism and harassment; Councilwoman Park—and Councilman Connor Traut, who has been a vocal opponent of the recall—and the residents who have defended Park have said repeatedly that racism seems to be behind these efforts, and she has said she has been the victim of harassment such as people lingering around her house and going through her mail. Mahony also said “fake Facebook accounts” have been created that comment as defenders of Park. He implored Ms. Park to resign, saying the recall proponents care only about “truth and justice…the city of Buena Park deserves better than this.”
