Dr. Ramon Miramontes, Superintendent of the Buena Park School District, shares his thoughts and school highlights each month

Hello Buena Park Independent readers,

It is my pleasure to relay the news about some of the amazing activities that have taken place in August throughout the Buena Park School District as we start the 2019-20 school year.

Recently, several of our schools held Orientation Days, which connected students and their families with teachers and staff. Across the District, teachers hosted classroom tours, presentations and workshops to showcase the District’s state of the art curriculum to attendees. Orientation Days are perfect for building partnerships with new parents and cementing old partnerships with returning parents.

The excitement from our orientation days rolled into our first week of school, which saw our campuses humming with enthusiastic students and teachers who were all eager to start the new school year.

Our District welcomed more than 4,500 students across seven campuses, each adorned with colorful banners and chalk messages to welcome students and encourage responsible behaviors.

We saw many exuberant classmate reunions and tearful sendoffs from new parents as they dropped off their children on August 13 for the first day of school.

The first week back sped by since our schools were energized by a litany of back-to-school events, such as a barbecue and award ceremonies. These events were created to encourage our students to excel in academics and their social-emotional growth.

Our annual Back to School Nights helped familiarize new and returning parents with our District’s expanded programs and advanced curriculum.

These events helped parents learn how their children will build robotics, study the culinary arts and examine tools from the stone age while studying at the Buena Park School District.

Finally, we are in the midst of updating our District’s logo and we want to hear feedback from all of our community members.

We have three logo options that were created to reflect Buena Park School District’s unyielding mission to create a passion for learning in all of our students.

Visit the District’s Facebook page at facebook.com/BuenaParkSchoolDistrict/ to vote on which logo you like best.

Thank you and I look forward to showcasing even more of our District’s amazing programs and events next month.
