The Walter D. Ehlers Community Recreation Center in Buena Park was a live and bustling with plenty of energy on Saturday, Aug. 23. That’s because the annual Super Senior Saturday event was taking place at the vibrant hub of news and information. The all day event featured a plethora of vendors selling and pitching their goods to senior citizens.
There were healthcare providers conducting blood pressure and other health screenings on the spot for free. Hospice workers and companies lined up to inform seniors of the many options available to them. Of course, political candidates showed up to the affair to make their pitch as to why seniors should get behind and vote for them come November.
Senior causes and issues are always an issue when it comes to healthcare, access to legal providers and information and also the structure within the city, so several candidates made their way to stand and speak with the elderly. This was in no way a political forum, but the candidates kind of rounded out all of the venders that made appearances.
Some of the interesting vendors making the trek to Super Senior Saturday was Boys ‘N’ Berries Square and Line Dancing Club, something of a recreational avenue for seniors. The Alzheimer’s Family Services Center was in the building as well informing seniors and others about the care and services the company provides, which includes free transportation.
Others include the Orange County Bar Association, Home Care Providers and Emerald Court, a place for senior living. Organizers of the event expected more than 1, 000 to attend the event. By mid-afternoon that number had already reached well over 600.
There was so much information being provided and shared it was hard not to get something that could assist any senior or elderly person, be it a relative, neighbor or someone in the community. Among the dignitaries to appear at the event were Buena Park City Council members and individuals associated with the West Orange County Regional Chamber of Commerce.
