Hundreds of senior citizens jammed into the Walter Ehlers Center in Buena Park this past Saturday to celebrate its 20th Super Senior Saturday event. Over 90 different organizations were on hand to aid the seniors with information and services from the medical, economical, physical, and educational realms.

There was also live entertainment for the seniors, as well as give-aways, food, and other gifts. Several big name politicians even made guest appearances and recited some speeches.

Some of the organizations that were on hand to aid the senior citizens with their future endeavors were the Buena Park Chapel  Renaker-Klockgether Mortuary, The Saint Jude Heritage Medical Group, The Braille Institute and Orange County Regional Center,  Forest Lawn Memorial  Park, and The Kaiser Permanente Senior Advantage Group.

There were also housing and financial planners, as well as elder law attorneys to educate the seniors in means of formulating a proper game plan to survive the United States’ current economic recession, and to sustain themselves in the midst of another possible financial collapse.

“I think that it is excellent that the seniors are coming out to attend this event,” says California Assemblywoman Young Kim. “I have been attending this event for the past 20 years, and I just want to applaud the city of Buena Park for the support that they show to our seniors. It is highly important that the seniors know that there are many organizations and programs that are here and that are available to them if they are ever in need of any kind of assistance. I also want them to know that if they have any concerns, questions, or issues regarding Medicaid, Medicare, or any other health affiliation, they should feel free to contact me and our district office. We deal with such topics directly and will be more than happy to assist them with whatever they need. We specifically deal with health plans like Medicaid and Medicare within our department. I will also stand with the seniors and will directly bring and voice all of their concerns to our state’s capitol in Sacramento.”

United States Congressman, Edward R. Royce had this to say about the matter.

“The seniors, as well as other citizens are more than welcome to contact me directly if they have any concerns in regards to health plans like Medicare or even Social Security. I will go and I will address their concerns to our nation’s capital in Washington D.C.”

Another rather positive and proactive way that the Super Senior Event was helping and assisting the elderly was by providing them free medical procedures on site for completely no cost. Various medical organizations and professionals were on hand to screen the citizens for hearing, vision, and heart problems. They also preformed procedures to help these folks deal with diabetes, stress, anxiety, and heart issues.

“It is great that the seniors are able to come here and get free access to these medical procedures, as well as other information and testing for any health issues,” says Royce. “There are also many organizations here that will provide long term discounted medical care or insurance. It is great that we reach out to these seniors and test them for any underlining health conditions like heart attacks, diabetes, or strokes, so that we can help them right away if in fact we find out that they have a health problem that they did not even know about yet. We can stop it now before it gets worse.”

Buena Park police officer Maury Thews also concurs with Congressman Royce’s points.

“It is important that we have this event for the seniors every year. We must do everything that we can to properly advertise, and to get the word out to gather more seniors here, so that they can learn more about the programs that they qualify for when it comes to their health, financial situations, and futures. These seniors need to be able to come here to know that they have options, rights, choices, help, and people who care.”

Buena Park Mayor Art Brown also attended the day’s festivities to see that all of the local seniors were provided with everything that they might need.

“I want more seniors to come here to attend the event every year so that they can get a better idea of what benefits that they qualify for,” stated Brown. “It is also important that they use the free medical services that we have here on site to help them stay aware of their health. I know many who have come here and the services themselves helped those individuals uncover underlining health conditions that they did not even know that they had yet, and it was this awareness that would wind up saving their very lives as time went on. We were able to help people diagnose and prevent cancer, strokes, and heart attacks before they even happened. The people were able to seek medical help right away, and were able to recover fully before the health condition worsened.”

As the evening commenced, “The Boys N Berries Square Dance Club,” hit the stage to provide some live singing, dancing, and entertainment. Many spectators and event visitors also jumped in to join in the western-style fun.

All in all, Super Senior Saturday was a complete blast as the seniors got the medical, financial, and spiritual guidance that they needed, all while managing to squeeze in a little moment of excitement in the process.
