St. Catherine’s Academy, an all boys Catholic school with a military tradition in Anaheim, hosted its annual military ball, “A Knight to Remember,” on Saturday, March 2. Nearly 250 people attended the event that took place at the DoubleTree Hotel to honor 36 graduating cadets and their families.

The event paid tribute to the Academy’s 130th anniversary of educating young boys with strong Catholic values rooted in the Dominican charism and rich military tradition program that began in 1889.

The young students were well-dressed in their traditional military uniforms as the mothers wore beautiful formal ballroom gowns. The event was filled with heartwarming moments, beginning with the school’s honor guard and color guard presenting traditional military colors. A highlight of the evening was an elegant waltz shared by mothers and sons, in which the students learned and practiced for months leading up to the event.

This year, St. Catherine’s Academy honored Major Larry Zaborowski, who spent nearly 30 years as the school’s military commandant.

His heartfelt and eloquent speech paid tribute to the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose and the deep-rooted military tradition that makes the school one of a kind.

A special homage to all fallen, missing or imprisoned military service members was showcased with a “missing man” table.

During the evening, mothers and fathers received a hand-written note from their sons and were invited to watch a special tribute video as a form of gratitude for all the sacrifices and opportunities that have been given to them. Many families attended the event from the city of Anaheim and surrounding cities, whereas others joined from different parts of the world to be with their sons who are part of St. Catherine’s Academy’s exceptional boarding program.

The Military Ball was also an opportunity to help raise funds for tuition assistance for students in need. For more information about St. Catherine’s Academy or its fundraising opportunities, please call 714-772-1363 or visit www.StCatherinesAcademy.org.
