Seven young men were honored recently in Cypress at a “Boy Scout Court of Honor” ceremony for completing the requirements to receive the award of Eagle.
The Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program. Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges and demonstrating an attitude of service and leadership. The final requirement is an extensive service project for which the scouts plan, organize, lead and manage the effort.

These Scouts were no exception. Several service projects included local school improvements at Cypress High School, Oxford Academy, Luther Elementary and Hope High School. A Child Abduction Prevention Fair was held in Buena Park and We Care of Los Alamitos had rolling storage units built for them to meet their food storage needs.
Cypress Mayor Doug Bailey honored Brennon Coleman, Bryce Mattson, Parker Smith and Tim Mauss of Cypress with a Community Recognition plaque.
“It was a pleasure for me to take part in the Eagle Scout Court of Honor,” Bailey said. “These seven young men embody the virtues and social responsibility that the Boy Scouts of America seeks to instill in our young people.”
“This badge of honor reflecting your ability, initiative, and perseverance is an achievement only a select few of the nation’s youth ever earn,” Buena Park Mayor Pro Tem Elizabeth Swift said.
Swift presented plaques of recognition to Buena Park residents Dallin McKenzie, Marcel Teloma and Nathan Jones.
“All of us in Buena Park are exceptionally proud of you for this accomplishment,” Swift said. “We also extend congratulations to your parents, teachers, and Scout leader for their support and encouragement in helping you attain your Eagle Award.”
The Court of Honor was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cypress.
