State Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva made a rare appearance at this week’s Buena Park City Council Meeting, to present a check for $500,000 to the city’s Historical Society for the upkeep of the Bacon House and the Whitaker-Jaynes Estate.

The money was secured through this year’s state budget.

Quirk-Silva, who bought a commemorative brick at Silverado Days a few years ago in support of the Buena Park Historical Society, said, “I look forward to the fine-tuning of that beautiful historic house.”

Chris Brown, the Historical Society President and wife of Mayor Art Brown, was one of those accepting the check, and thanked the assemblywoman, saying, “We needed it and you came through.”

The two structures belonged to some of Buena Park’s original families and have been relocated to Beach Boulevard, across the street from City Hall.

The Historical Society has expressed a desire for some time to put in some upkeep work on the houses, as well as work with architects to make sure they are period-appropriate.

The Historical Society hopes to keep using the houses as education centers for local students.
