Quirk-Silva honors Buena Park’s resident as ‘Woman of the Year’

Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton) honored small business owner and philanthropist, Virginia Vaughn as the 65th District’s 2014 Woman of the Year in Sacramento. The honor is part of the California State Assembly’s annual Woman of the Year ceremony hosted by the Legislative Women’s Caucus.

Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton) honored small business owner and philanthropist, Virginia Vaughn as the 65th District’s 2014 Woman of the Year in Sacramento. The honor is part of the California State Assembly’s annual Woman of the Year ceremony hosted by the Legislative Women’s Caucus.

“Virginia has contributed in so many ways to our local business community as Chairwoman of the Buena Park Chamber of Commerce. What she loves about her business is the ability to give back to the people that she serves,” said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva.

“Virginia understands the needs of the local community. Through her selfless work and tireless efforts, Virginia has supported numerous causes in our district.”

Ms. Vaughn is the owner of Bella Dia Salon & Day Spa, Inc. in Buena Park and serves on numerous boards as well as volunteers for various organizations in her community including: the Buena Park Woman’s Club, Giving Children Hope (G.C.H.), Buena Park Children’s Museum, Buena Park School District Education Foundation, Boys & Girls Club, and the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (C.H.O.C.) Guild.

Ms. Vaughn is also the recipient of the 2011 Buena Park Business Leader of the Year

Award, the 2012 Community Service Award from Buena Park Rotary Club, the 2013 Small

Business Leader Award from West Orange County Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the 2013 Integrity of Profession Award from the Soroptimist International of Buena Park.

The ‘Woman of the Year’ event started in 1987 and is a celebration of the contributions to society made by remarkable women throughout California. The Legislative Women’s Caucus arranges to invite one woman from each Senate and Assembly district to come to the Capitol and be honored for their accomplishments.

Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva will be continuing Women’s History Month celebrations in her district by hosting the 2014 Women of Distinction ceremony on March 29.
