The GRIP Girls Club is an afterschool program that is hosted by Community Service Programs, Inc., Orange County Family Justice Center, Anaheim Police Department, and the school counselors.

The GRIP Girls Club was started in November 2010, after many girls were identified as “at-risk” by their school.

The girls, range in ages from 12-14. The club teaches the students involved about topics that are important to help them succeed such as self-esteem, bullying, internet safety and social media, etiquette, and other topics. Further, the club’s goal is to reward growth, accomplishment, and positive behavior.

Seven students at Orangeview Junior High School earned 35 or more community service hours and completed the GRIP Girls Club program. On June 4, the seven students were treated to a hair and makeup makeover. Cosmetology students from CRU Institute of Cosmetology and Barbering volunteered their time to give a makeover the students.

Student NeQuai Samuel enjoyed the pampering.

“It was really set up well,” Samuel said. “I liked how they took their time to do our hair and makeup.”

The next day, June 5, the students were treated to a catered lunch by Cortina’s in Anaheim and to the Olive Garden in Buena Park. Student Jennifer Ramirez expressed her excitement.

“When I walked in I could already taste the food because it smelled so delicious,” said Ramirez.

The students who earned the reward are: Xitlalit Franklin,Tiarrah Johnson, Aliyah Mack, Alena Padilla, Jennifer Ramirez, Nekira Samuel, and NeQuai Samuel.
