As a member of the State Allocation Board (SAB), Senator Janet Nguyen is pleased to announce that the SAB has unanimously approved the release of over $5.5 million in modernization grants for four local schools. The four schools receiving funding are Oak Middle School and Weaver Elementary School in the Los Alamitos Unified School District, as well as Warner Middle School and Johnson Middle School in the Westminster School District. Funding for these improvements was made possible through Proposition 51, a school bond approved by voters in the Nov. 2016 election.

“Thanks to these modernization grants, these schools can implement projects that will enhance the learning experience of our students,” said Nguyen. “An investment in education not only improves the school setting for children and elevates the quality of instruction.”

The four modernization grants have a total cost of over $5.5 million and include an additional local match of approximately $3.7 million. The funding will go to improve classrooms and multi-purpose buildings on school campuses. Projects eligible under this program include modifications such as air conditioning, plumbing, lighting, electrical systems, and fire detection systems.

Since her appointment to the SAB in Feb. 2017, Nguyen has helped draw more than $16 million to schools in Garden Grove, Los Alamitos, Santa Ana, and Westminster Unified School Districts. The SAB is comprised of ten members: the Director of Finance, the Director of the Department of General Services, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, one appointee by the Governor and six members of State Legislature, among then three members of the Senate and three members of the Assembly.
