Buena Park’s Jan. 8 City Council Meeting was adjourned in memory of Rick Gomez, a long-time Buena Park resident and Parks and Recreation Commissioner of 26 years. He passed away just after the start of the new year after battling illness. His family was present at the meeting, and council members shared fond memories of Gomez, before the crowd gave a standing ovation. Gomez was also well-known in the community as a very popular little league coach. It was announced that the city has just purchased a small park at 8th and Western that will be named in Gomez’s honor.
