At a time in her life when she was looking forward to being a full-time grandmother to her five, soon to be six, grandchildren, Louise Hawk of Buena Park has been called to serve as the local President of the Relief Society organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Service is not new to Hawk, who served for a short time in a Relief Society presidency in another state.

When asked what she would like to accomplish during her presidency, Hawk said, “I like to keep things simple. Our focus will be on loving the Lord, loving ourselves and loving each other.”

One of the primary goals of the organization is to seek out opportunities to serve others.

In September, the group gathered donations for infants 3-12 months old, which are donated to new mothers of Marine Corps families.

The group is currently gathering fleece for blankets, which will be cut and tied in November for the Homeless Transition Center being constructed in Buena Park.
