Designated hitter Richard Cabral, who occasionally plays in the outfield, ended as one of two players to deliver a multiple-hit game. Cabral, who owned a .600 batting average after one game, went 3-for-5, which included a double and an RBI. The other multiple-hit game belonged to senior Gabriel Santos, went 2-for-5 with a double as well, but clubbed a pair of RBI.
On the mound, starter Cody Gutierrez (1-0) earned the win. He threw six innings, finished with an ERA of 2.33. Gutierrez also notched 8 strikeouts, allowing just 5 hits.
Closer Drake Keiler picked up the save, tossing a scoreless seventh inning.
The Coyotes did struggle defensively, with five different players making errors. Justin Lee and Cabral, who is better known for his bat than his glove, both made two errors.
Cypress High opened its season last week with a doubleheader against El Toro, which it swept with scores of 5-1 and 6-2.
Sunny Hills owns a 1-1 overall record. It opened with an 11-5 victory against Ontario on Feb. 26, but then fell 7-2 against Negales on Feb. 28.
