Carol Latham, Anaheim community leader, owner of Fashion Events Unlimited, and Community Outreach Coordinator for Anaheim’s Muzeo, was presented with the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award for Service at Altrusa International’s July Biennium Convention in Reno, Nev. The Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award is named in honor of the legendary First Lady who was an active member of the Altrusa Club of New York City in her service-oriented life. It is Altrusa International’s only award given to an individual member. It is designed to recognize an Altrusan who makes a lasting contribution to community service as a result of involvement with Altrusa. Recipients must have a distinguished service record at the local, district and international levels.
Latham won the prestigious award because of her outstanding community activities over the past 25 years, including initiating all of the following: poet laureate for Anaheim; the writing program, “Finding My Voice, Telling My Story,” in the Anaheim Elementary School District, in partnership with the Anaheim Public Library, schools and district; music back in the schools in concert with Anaheim’s Orange County Symphony Board; NEA Big Read with the APL; quarterly Art Crawl Experience and many, many more.
Currently Altrusa International of Anaheim Foundation, Inc. president, Latham also serves as the Club parliamentarian. In Latham’s 25-year membership in Altrusa International of Anaheim, Inc., she has held the office of president of both the club and the foundation, as well as holding other offices and serving on many committees. She has been Governor of Altrusa District Eleven and has served twice on the International Board and on many international committees.
Locally, Latham has served three times as president of the Anaheim Arts Council, and has been involved in many organizations as an officer or committee chair, including the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce and their Women’s Division; American Business Women’s Association, Lamplighter Chapter; Anaheim Fall Festival and Anaheim Children’s Festival; Orange County Symphony; Angels of Hope Auxiliary, Orange County Rescue Mission; and the West Anaheim Neighborhood District Community Event.
