The undergrounding project on Lincoln Avenue, crossing the 57 freeway to Rio Vista Street, and on Rio Vista Street, from Lincoln Avenue to La Palma Avenue, began construction in July 2016 and is approximately 75% complete with new LED street lights already energized along most of the project. The City’s Contractor is currently installing new underground electrical cables and apparatuses. The project was closely coordinated with the California Department of Transportation for tunneling under the 57 and 91 Freeways to eliminate overhead freeway crossings for improved electric reliability which was completed as of April 2018. Electrical undergrounding is scheduled to be completed by October 2018 with cable TV, phone and other communication companies completing their under grounding with 12-18 months thereafter.
