Twenty-four members and guests of the La Palma-Cerritos Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) enjoyed a wonderful taco luncheon prepared by members of the Norwalk United Methodist Church on Saturday, Aug. 18.
Thanks to the AAUW’s Program Co-Chair, Diane Hutson, members and guests were able to enjoy their second Taco Social at the church’s Hamilton Hall. Guests were served a delicious Mexican lunch including chicken and beef tacos with corn tortillas, rice, beans, salsa and cilantro. Chef Jose Luis Puentes prepared the tacos and was assisted by church members Barbara Adams, Mary Stodola and Robert Perez. Cold drinks and a variety of desserts were provided by the AAUW’s Membership Co-VP Sue Solomon.

The Taco Social was a time to relax and enjoy authentic Mexican food and to enjoy fellowship with old and new friends. It was nice to see that there were several spouses who came to support the event.
First in line at the AAUW Taco Social on Aug. 18 are, right to left, Martin Flax, Paul Ross, Judi Adams, Jackie Shahzadi, Bahman Shahzadi, Sue Carruthers and Linda Hernandez. Martin, Paul and Bahman were three of six husbands who came to enjoy the Taco Social and often support their wives’ AAUW activities.
President Harriet Moses thanked everyone for coming to the Taco Social, and also thanked Diane and her church members for hosting the event. She reminded board members to come to the board meeting on Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at her home in Buena Park. It will be back to AAUW business in September with fundraising activities and programs to be scheduled in 2018-19.
