On Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, the Boys and Girls Club of Buena Park (7758 Knott Ave., Buena Park) will celebrate the grand re-opening of their gymnasium with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6:30 p.m.
The gym was in dire need of renovation due to outdated equipment and water damage. Improvements include new flooring, paint, windows, doors and baskets. Six new fans were mounted on the walls, along with an insulated ceiling. Water drainage was improved, and an expanded Rock Wall was installed.
Todd Traut, CEO of the Boys and Girls Club, stated that the club offers low cost basketball clinics, summer skills camps and leagues throughout the year for youth and teens in grades one through eight. Additionally, the club offers programs in leadership, fine arts, education and fitness. He hopes the improvements will expand community involvement with the club by providing safe after-school and summer structured programs where youth and teens can grow to be productive and caring citizens.
The Boys and Girls Club partnered with the North Orange County Safety Task Force (NOCSTF), of which the Buena Park Police Department participates, in order to complete the renovation project. Other local businesses and organizations that assisted with this project include Rock & Brews Restaurant, Mike Ells Construction, the Buena Park Police Association, BGCBP Board of Directors, and State Senator Josh Newman.
The public is invited to this wonderful event on Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m. RSVP’s and inquiries should be directed to Todd Traut, who can be reached at (714) 522-7259, or tdtraut@theplaceforkids.org.
