Premiere sponsors played a hole with Mr. Funk and attended a private dinner on Oct. 25 with Fred Couples and Peter Jacobsen. Cayce Blanchard, SLDC Board Member and Senior VP, Corporate Communications at Mitsubishi Electric US said, “These pros have real heart. It shows the commitment these Champions Tour players have to helping children in need. We’re grateful for their participation.” Local coach Dick Gorrie helped start the tournament 37 years ago. Gorrie is the men’s golf coach at Santiago Canyon College and currently teaches golf but he may be best known for leading the Santa Ana College football team to 51 victories when he coached the Dons. He was also a West Coast Scout for the Los Angeles Rams and the Buffalo Bills. “What the Center does for these kids is truly phenomenal. Sponsors and participants in this year’s tournament not only got a great game of golf and a clinic with Fred Funk, they also helped children with Autism and other disabilities.” Gorrie said.
