The city of Buena Park is helping its residents stay fit by rolling out fitness equipment at four of its parks. To consummate the union of fitness and recreation, Buena Park officials recently held a dedication ceremony to highlight the achievement. Mayor Art Brown, Mayor Pro Tem Fred Smith, City Manager Jim Vanderpool attended the ceremony that took place at Bellis Park on Friday, April 17. The City Park’s Fitness Equipment Dedication event also was an opportunity for St. Jude Hospital to receive recognition for a large grant it worked out with the city to provide the parks with the equipment Community members can now pump iron in the park, thanks to a $100,000 grant received through Buena Park’s partnership with St. Jude Hospital. As part of the “Let’s Move” initiative to address childhood obesity, the city is using the grant for installation of outdoor exercise equipment in four parks:
· George Bellis Park – 7171 8th Street
· William Peak Park – 7225 El Dorado Drive
· San Marino Park – 6200 San Rolando Circle
· Lindbergh Mini Park – 4th Street and Stanton Avenue
The city purchased the equipment from Greenfields Outdoor Fitness, Inc., a California corporation committed to improving the community’s overall health. The equipment will be installed in March and available for public use in April at no charge. For more information on Let’s Move, please visit letsmove.gov.
