The Anaheim Firefighters Association, Local 2899, is pleased to announce its support for former council member Jordan Brandman to represent the City’s 2nd Council District. According to Association President Rich Cheatham, the organization’s members picked Brandman because he is a proven stabilizing force on the Council and he has a strong history of supporting firefighter issues.
Officials with the Association cite public safety concerns including an annual call volume that has doubled since 2007, at roughly 40 thousand calls per year, and firefighter staffing levels that are lower than they were close to three decades ago.
Brandman, an Anaheim City Councilmember at large from 2012-2016, has spoken out about the dangers posed by low staff levels and has previously fought to restore lost firefighter positions.
According to an independent phone poll of hundreds of Anaheim voters conducted this July, public support for Anaheim’s firefighters is extremely high, with a majority indicating they would be more likely to vote for a candidate who received an endorsement from the Anaheim Firefighters Association.
Says Cheatham, “Jordan has the full trust of our members because he understands the needs of public safety. We’re confident in his plan to strengthen public safety and give us the support we need to decrease response times, protect your families and keep our neighborhoods safe.”
Brandman has vowed to continue his work to return the firefighting force to its full strength if elected this November.
Originally established in 1964, the Anaheim Firefighters Association represents the nearly 200 professional firefighters, paramedics and EMTs of the Anaheim Fire & Rescue Department.
