On July 31, Yamaha Corporation of America played host to the Disneyland Resort All-American College Band, one of the most prestigious music programs in the country. Yamaha is the official supplier of musical instruments for the Disneyland Resort, providing a broad range of instruments for the resort’s performers as a part of their music education partnership.
Presented by Yamaha since 2007, the 21-member ensemble gave a rousing lunchtime concert on the front steps of the company’s headquarters in Buena Park, delighting Yamaha employees, children from the Boys & Girls Club of Buena Park and Mayor Virginia Vaughn.
Launched at Disneyland in 1971 and Walt Disney World in 1972, the All-American Band was designed to cultivate relationships between the Disneyland Resort and colleges and universities around the country, selecting the top college-band students for a world-class summer internship program. The collaboration between Disney and Yamaha has afforded student guests of Disneyland Resort with meaningful musical experiences and high-quality products impeccably maintained by some of the world’s most experienced instrument experts.
Among the instruments Yamaha provided to those selected to perform in the band were flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, flugelhorns, trombones, mellophones, tubas, horns, marching bass drums and a Silent Bass.
Yamaha and Disneyland Resort have enjoyed a longstanding relationship for the past 28 years. Disneyland is one of the largest employers of professional musicians in the world, and Yamaha has outfitted those players with professional grade instruments including Yamaha drum sets, which occupy the stage at performance venues; an upright piano that has provided entertainment for many years at Refreshment Corner on Main Street U.S.A., and Yamaha guitars, used in guest performances throughout the resort. Professional pianists perform on a Yamaha Disklavier that occupies the lobby of the exquisite Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. When live pianists aren’t playing the instrument, guests can listen to their favorite Disney tunes, thanks to the Disklavier’s reproducing capabilities. Yamaha mixing boards help enhance the sound experience at all of the resort’s theaters and music venues, including the flagship Hyperion Theater, home to Disney’s “Frozen—Live at the Hyperion.”
“Yamaha values the success of talented young musicians, and our collaboration with Disneyland Resort speaks to the unwavering support for music education that we enjoy together,” says David Jewell, marketing communications manager, Yamaha Corporation of America. “Providing high-quality instruments needed by the Disneyland Resort All-American College Band allows the members to excel in their musical careers, and in turn, inspire young children to explore the joys of making music. Watching the reaction of the children from the Boys and Girls Club to the group’s performance today was an inspiration in itself!”
