It’s that time of year when Anaheim Beautiful accepts applications for the Thelma Jordan Scholarship to students who are residents of Anaheim. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded each year to a senior high school student or student currently enrolled in an accredited college who intends to study a field related to Urban Environmental Studies. The award, which began in 2003, was named in honor of Anaheim Beautiful’s founder, Thelma Jordan, and will be presented at Anaheim Beautiful’s Gala Banquet on Wednesday, June 6.

Areas of study in the scholarship’s field of focus include Conservation, Urban Development, Landscaping, Architecture, Environmental Biology and other specific fields related to the environment. A complete list is available on the scholarship application form.

“The deadline for applications, including a one-page essay on the student’s future plans, as well as a letter of recommendation, is April 30,” said Esther Wallace, Thelma Jordan Scholarship Committee Chair. “Interested students may get an application from their counselors or download the application online. This scholarship can be a big help with the expenses facing students seeking higher education and we are pleased to be able to provide it to those who choose to study and work in this important field.”
