Buena Park’s High School football team will be competing this weekend (July 12) in the annual San Gabriel Valley shootout at Arroyo High School.
The event will feature 24 teams from across Southern California. Games begin at 9 a.m., and the championship game is at 4:30 pm.
For Coyotes coach Anthony White, the tournament is great exposure for his team and is a way to get sense of how to move forward with his team.

“I usually sign up for the tournament to see where our team is at. To throw them into the fire of competition and see how well they do. We’ve been in [the tournament] these last three years, and last year we took fourth. We look at winning all tournaments we participate in, so we’ll be fired up.”
Here’s a list of the teams involved in the SGV Shootout this weekend:
Pool A
Maranatha, Covina, Rosemead, Azusa
Pool B
Los Altos, Arroyo, Northview, Bassett
Pool C
Monrovia, Marshall, Bell Gardens, Gabrielino
Pool D
Buena Park, South El Monte, Keppel, Diamond Bar
Pool E
Whitier Christian, Rowland, Mountain View, Arcadia
Pool F
Crescenta Valley, La Puente, El Monte, Montebello
This Wednesday the Coyotes compete in a linemen competition at Gabrielino High School.
“We are trying to get out there and compete,” said White. “It’s nice to go against ourselves but going against other teams we bond as a team and get to see where we are at.”
When asked about the abundance of summer competitions White responded:
“We’re trying to travel all over against as many teams as possible to raise our game up and get ready for our season.”
