Buena Park’s football team carried out its first league victory in dashing style.
The Coyotes handed Sunny Hills High its first shutout defeat of the season and its second league defeat when Buena Park defeated the Lancers 40-0 on Friday, Oct. 17 at Buena Park Stadium.
The Coyotes will feel that their winning performance couldn’t have come at a better time since starting out their league campaign with a defeat to La Habra.

The Coyotes handed Sunny Hills High its first shutout defeat of the season and its second league defeat when Buena Park defeated the Lancers 40-0 on Friday, Oct. 17 at Buena Park Stadium.
The Coyotes will feel that their winning performance couldn’t have come at a better time since starting out their league campaign with a defeat to La Habra.
Despite the early shortcomings, Coach Anthony White and his Coyotes’ squad bounced back to deliver a booming win to propel their league record to 1-1.
Buena Park broke open the game in the first quarter with a 30-yard touchdown reception from its top receiver Jaylinn Hawkins and a rushing touchdown from its quarterback Zach Taylor.
The two would connect again in the second quarter for the third touchdown of the game from a 50-yard touchdown reception by Hawkins.
Hawkins finished the game with two touchdown receptions, an interception, and a total of 141 receiving yards. Taylor also had a huge night throwing 12 completions out of 17 attempts, two of which were for touchdowns, and a total of around 200 yards.
The Coyotes’ passing game got them on the scoreboard but it was their ground game that capped off the victory.
A remarkable display by the Coyotes’ ever-impressive Marcos Loudon saw the running back put up some huge stats.
Loudon handed Buena Park its final three touchdowns in stunning fashion as he ran in a game-long, 99-yard rushing touchdown for his second of the night in the third quarter.
Loudon carried for a blazing 290 yards on just 12 carries and averaged about 25 yards per carry. The performance from Loudon rounded out a brilliant display by the Coyotes’ offense, which also owes its shutout success to its defensive unit.
Led by its young defensive end Cedric Dashiell II who had a sack on the night, the Coyotes defense was successful in holding off Sunny Hills’ offense.
The Coyotes depth in defense doesn’t stop their as almost every defensive player notched a solo tackle against the Lancers.
Last year, the Coyotes also pulled off a win against Sunny Hills in considerable fashion. The Coyotes pulled away in the fourth quarter of last year’s game notching 16 points to end the victory 30-22.
The Coyotes recent league victory over the Lancers is a common occurrence when these two sides meet.
In fact, Sunny Hills hasn’t come away with a victory against the Coyotes since Coach Anthony White has taken over the program. Sunny Hills last win against Buena Park came in 2009 against then coach Rob Ryan.
Coach White and his squad will need to take Friday’s victory with a grain a salt as they might’ve done well in the match but the road to CIF glory still has many obstacles that need to be traversed.
Next week, Buena Park moves on to Troy High on Oct. 24 at the Coyotes’ home stadium at 7 p.m. These two football programs have gone back and forth since White took over. Currently, the Coyotes hold the most recent victory when they beat the Warriors last October by a score of 34-16. Buena Park will need to achieve a victory against Troy to get in the swing of success and string together some wins.
Coach White’s mantra ‘stay hungry’ is exactly what his Coyotes squad will need to be once they do get a taste of couple victories in a row. They will need to maintain their focus and drive to be able to consistently walk away with victories.
