Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (AD-65), Chair of the California State Assembly Veterans Affairs Committee, joined by local veterans, their families, and elected officials gathered today to announce important legislation affecting California’s veterans that has been passed during the 2013-2014 legislative cycle, including the signage of Assembly Bill (AB) 1453.
Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (AD-65), Chair of the California State Assembly Veterans Affairs Committee, joined by local veterans, their families, and elected officials gathered today to announce important legislation affecting California’s veterans that has been passed during the 2013-2014 legislative cycle, including the signage of Assembly Bill (AB) 1453.
“Without their uniforms, you may not know that there are around 130,000 veterans among us in Orange County. Their immeasurable service must be met with our utmost gratitude not only through our rhetoric but also through actions. That is why we are here today, to announce significant pieces of legislation that support California’s veterans and military active duty men and women and their families,” stated Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva, “this last week, marked a historic moment for Orange County as we solidified our rich military history with the signage of AB 1453.”
Buena Park Mayor, Steve Berry; Chairman of the Orange County Veteran Memorial Park Committee, Bill Cook; Irvine City Mayor Pro Tem, Jeffrey Lalloway; Irvine City Councilmember, Larry Agran; Assemblymember Tom Daly (AD-69); Assemblymember Don
Wagner (AD-68); and the Department of California Veterans Affairs Representative, John Kraft all joined the celebration of California veterans.
“Please join me in thanking Governor Jerry Brown for his support of California veterans,” Quirk-Silva said. “I would like to dedicate today’s event to our veterans, to the fallen, to their struggles and triumphs because there is no accolade that can meet their sacrifices. I am deeply honored and humbled to serve as Chair of the Veterans Affairs Committee in the California State Assembly and thank all the veterans here. There is no greater honor than to be a part of this effort of establishing a sacred place where generations of heroes can come to rest – and generations of Californians can come pay their respects.”
