District Program welcomes the community to highlight the importance of early education
Centralia School District’s Child Development Services Program celebrated the Week of the Young Child with special events highlighting the importance and value of early childhood education. The National Association for the Education of Young Children first established the Week of the Young Child in 1971, recognizing that the early childhood years (birth through age eight) develops the foundation for a child’s success in school and later in life. Week of the Young Child, celebrated April 16-20 in 2018, highlighted children’s early educational opportunities, and promotes that every child has a chance to experience a positive early learning environment at home, at childcare, at school and in the community.
Centralia capped off the Week of the Young Child by hosting parent participation days at Centralia, Danbrook and San Marino Schools. Over three days, 255 participants and their children rotated between hands-on activities, music and movement, art and nutrition. During each of these activities, participants were provided with tools and practices that they could use to support their child’s learning at home. “Centralia is proud to provide opportunities like this to our families and to promote interactive parent-child learning in our preschool programs. This is but one example of what makes our state preschool programs exemplary,” said Superintendent Norma Martinez.
The Centralia School District is located in beautiful Southern California in the northern part of Orange County, between Los Angeles and San Diego counties. Centralia School District was established in 1875 and today, the district’s eight elementary schools are located in the cities of Buena Park, Anaheim and La Palma, serving approximately 4,400 students.
