Celebrate International Jazz Day on Monday, April 30 at 7 p.m. on the Plaza at Ehlers Event Center (8150 Knott Ave.). International Jazz Day brings together communities, schools, artists, historians, academics, and jazz enthusiasts all over the world to celebrate and learn about jazz and its roots, future, and impact, raise awareness of the need for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding; and reinforce international cooperation and communication. Each year on April 30, this international art form is recognized for promoting peace and dialogue among cultures, diversity, and respect for human rights and human dignity; eradicating discrimination; promoting freedom of expression; fostering gender equality; and reinforcing the role of youth in enacting social change.
Performing will be the Mitch Forman Trio featuring Niki Haris. Prolific pianist Mitch Forman and his powerhouse trio from the rave-reviewed album “Puzzle,” bassist Kevin Axt and drummer Steve Hass, join forces with charismatic vocalist Niki Haris. Best known as “the big voice” behind Madonna for 18 years and collaborator with legends from Ray Charles to Mick Jagger, Niki joins Forman’s trio for an extraordinary jazz concert under the stars.
