The first recruiting class in the history of University of Antelope Valley men’s basketball welcomed its newest member, forward Terrence Blum of Buena Park, head men’s basketball coach Brad Rogers announced.
Blum is the 11th of 12 signees to be announced thus far for the inaugural 2015-16 Pioneers.
“We are excited to be adding a player with Terrence’s abilities to our first recruiting class,” Rogers said. “Terrence has a lot of positive attributes on the court and plays the same at a high level. He is going to be a mismatch problem for teams as he has the ability to play a wing position or the stretch four position.”
“He can use his size and length to score around the basket, but he also has a great mid-range and can knock down the three-point shot,” he added.
The six-foot-six athlete – who plans to major in Business – joins the Pioneers after his stint at California Community College Athletic Association institution Santa Ana (Calif.). In 2014, Blum was named second team All-Conference in the Orange Empire Conference after tallying 8.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
The freshest face in the Pioneers basketball program was drawn to Antelope Valley because of the endless possibilities, both on the court and in the classroom.
“I chose UAV because I thought they had a great schooling program and the school would give me the best opportunity to get my degree, especially with the great classes they have set up on campus,” Blum said. “I also like the idea of a new school starting a basketball program because it gives me excitement to see that big things are to come in the near future at UAV.”
“I want to be a part of making basketball history in the basketball program’s first couple years in the Cal Pac Conference.”
Blum, the son of Garry Rayson and Karrie Blum, joins teammates Jeremiah Townes, Kadeem Minor, Miles Nolen-Webb, Jonathan Parker, Reggiontae Cooper, Joshua Sanchez, Franky Teran, Joseph McNiff, Jacob Bowman and Ezekiel Armstrong in the 2015 Pioneers recruiting class.
The Pioneers open their inaugural season at home in the UAV Pioneers Tipoff Classic against either San Diego Christian (Calif.) or Benedictine (Ariz.) on November 6, 2015.
The University of Antelope Valley is entering its third year as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and will join the California Pacific Conference for the 2015-16 school year.
