Buena Park High School’s Michael Rangel signed his letter for intent to Minot State University on May 18. Rangel was awarded a full-ride scholarship for wrestling to Minot, which is located in North Dakota, and he signed during lunch time in the school’s quad.
“It feels great,” said Rangel. “My friends are like ‘congrats and it’s going to be really cold up there.’”
Rangel says he chose Minot because of the wrestling program and the brand new wrestling facilities the university has to offer, but also because of how welcoming the campus felt.
“I’m looking forward to memories. Everyone says college is fun; college is the best time of your life. I just want to experience college,” said Rangel.
Aside from wrestling, Rangel wants to major in criminal justice and wants to one day become a California sheriff’s deputy.
“My freshman year I took a legal law class and that really got me interested in police work and detectives,” said Rangel. “I’ve always felt that someone should keep the peace and make sure nothing bad happens out there.”
