Make Music Buena Park is part of a global celebration of making music with a free “open mic” event for the community
The Source OC, Southern California’s newest entertainment and lifestyle destination in Buena Park, will host the Make Music Buena Park celebration, with a special open mic event on Thursday, June 21 starting at 5 p.m. Make Music Day is a one-day global event where free, live musical performances, opportunities to make music, and other musical events take place around the world on the longest day of the year. Through collaborations between Buena Park-based businesses Yamaha Corporation of America and The Source, and the City of Buena Park, Make Music Buena Park will be part of a global celebration of music making in over 750 cities inspired by France’s Fête de la Musique.
Make Music Buena Park will be an evening of musical celebration with live performances and fun for the whole family including games, food and more. The event will also feature a special beer garden for an “Outdoor Happy Hour” with a Make Music Day $1 beer special. The main event will take place on the first floor Main Plaza of The Source from 5-9 p.m., welcoming participants to perform on stage.
Performance sign-ups are open to the public online at www.thesourceoc.com/makemusicdaybp or on the day of the event to everyone from professional musicians to people who have never picked up an instrument. The group Total Request Live Band Karaoke will be performing as the live band for all vocalists that sign up to perform. As part of Make Music Buena Park, the first 40 participants will receive headphones contributed by Yamaha. All participants will also be entered into a special drawing for a chance to win a Yamaha keyboard or a Yamaha guitar, donated by Yamaha Corporation of America. A total of three winners will be randomly selected to win.
National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) members and partners from coast to coast, including The Source OC, will open their doors, joining in their communities’ celebrations of Make Music Day. June 21 is the perfect day to stop in to a local music store for some gear or to go out and play—whether it’s for the first time or the thousandth.
