On Wednesday, June 20, Giving Children Hope will host an awareness event about the global refugee crisis. They will also share about their work serving refugees around the world. This event is on World Refugee Day, an annual international observance dedicated to raising awareness about the situation of refugees.
Giving Children Hope’s World Refugee Day event will allow guests to hear directly from refugees, both from the Middle East and Venezuela. These refugees will share about their experience in their home country prior to leaving, as well as a life as a refugee. In collaboration with a group of volunteers, there will be a refugee experience for guests to walk through, designed to resemble the living quarters of a refugee, which will allow guests to better understand the living conditions of many refugees.
Since 2012, Giving Children Hope has been active in serving refugees around the world. To date, Giving Children Hope has sent 28 40-foot shipping containers full of relief supplies to Syrian refugees living in Lebanon and Jordan, as well as serving and supporting Venezuelan refugees that have fled to Colombia to escape their country’s humanitarian crisis. Giving Children Hope is committed to serving refugees both around the world and those living in our community.
The event will be held from 4-6 p.m. at Giving Children Hope on Wednesday, June 20. Giving Children Hope is located at 8332 Commonwealth Ave. For questions about this event or to RSVP, please email sesquivel@gchope.org.
