Buena Park Mayor Virginia Vaughn hosted a “Back-to-School Bash” to collect donations of school supplies for local school children and teachers.
“August is back to school time for most families and children in our schools need educational supplies. After discussing this need with teachers and leaders in education, I decided to open my home for a Back-to-School Bash that invited neighbors, businesses and community organizations to come together for a neighborhood BBQ to support our students and local schools,” stated Vaughn.
The community event, held last Sunday afternoon, was a great success. Over 40 bags of assorted school supplies containing paper, pencils, glue, tissues, hand sanitizers and backpacks were donated for local students.
“I want to thank our amazing Buena Park residents, along with Premier Chevrolet, and Giving Children Hope for their incredible generosity that made this event so successful,” shared Vaughn.
“Many public officials and politicians say they support our children. But how many open their homes and dedicate their personal time to make an actual difference in the lives of students? Today Mayor Vaughn demonstrated what it means to lead by example. I hope other residents and community leaders follow her lead to invest their time and energy into supporting our students and local schools,” said Buena Park School District Assistant Superintendent Ramon Miramontes.
Vaughn has been personally delivering the bags of school supplies to Emery, Beatty, Whitaker, Gilbert, Corey and Pendleton schools this week.
