The Buena Park Library District celebrated its 100th anniversary with a day of family-friendly activities to mark the occasion. A history program was held, followed by family fun activities on the lawn, including children’s crafts, face painting, an animal magic show and a ballet foklorico performance.
The Library’s history began in 1905 when early residents of Buena Park created a library with donated books in a spare room of the old Lily Creamery. In 1919, the Buena Park Woman’s Club circulated a petition for an election to be held to approve the formation of the Buena Park Library District. On June 2, 1919, an election was held in which 74 out of 79 voters decided a library district to be known and designated as “Buena Park Library District of Orange County” should be formed. The library was built on the corner of what are now Beach Boulevard and Pinchot Court.
