BP High’s basketball teams search for first league win

Both Buena Park High basketball teams remain winless in Freeway League action. The boys suffered defeats at the hands of Sunny Hills and Troy, which posted 79-51 and 59-46 victories on Jan. 15 and Jan. 17.

The female Coyotes, on the other hand, suffered much greater losses, falling to Sunny Hills by the score of 66-25 and then to Troy by the score of 61-12.

Both BP High teams now occupy the cellar of the Freeway League, though the boys own an 8-11 overall record and the girls have a 4-7 overall mark.

The male Coyotes, who have lost four of their last five games, could not stop Sunny Hill’s Max Thurman, who scored 25 points. Shae Patel also contributed 10 points and 8 rebounds. In fact, the Lancers outscored the Coyotes during the first three quarters and only finished one point behind in the fourth quarter.

BP High’s Deven Boston notched 11 and Joe Galvan finished with 10.

Troy received an impressive performance from

Coyotes player June Rodriguez became the only member of his team to break into double digits against Troy in the scoring column with 13 points. His teammate CJ Delafuente accumulated 8 points for the team’s second-highest tally.

In all, Troy featured three who made more than 10 points. That list included David Bayeh, who netted 15 points, and Chad Rollins, who dented the board for 13 points, which included a 3-pointer. Jason Choi tallied 12 points.

Buena Park returned to action against Sonora on Jan. 22 and will now battle Fullerton on Jan. 24 on the road at 7:30 p.m.

As for the girls, the female Lancers received an impressive performance from Justis Simpson, who notched 16 points and a 3-pointer. Kelli Arii also tallied 11 points and Riley Spindler earned a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The Coyotes top scorer, Genya Robinson Sanders, settled for 7 points.

The Troy matchup wasn’t much prettier. Troy’s Barbara Sitanggan chalked up 17 points and Rebecca Lazuka dented the board for 13 points. BP High’s Nicole Williams scored a team-high 4 points.
