On August 10, Elks volunteers from Buena Park, Huntington Beach, Mission Viejo and Santa Ana joined efforts at the Second Harvest Food Bank located in Irvine. Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, Inc., is the largest hunger relief organization in Orange County. They work to provide nourishment to more than 290,000 people a month through more than 300 community partners and programs in every city in the county.
For a couple of hours, the Elks and several other volunteer organizations repacked 18,600 pounds of red onions. From 50-pound sacks, smaller bags were made in which five to six onions were placed, making it easier to handle and pack them for family consumption.
There were many posted testimonials of persons that received food for their families. Often, they do not know where to go to ask for help. If anyone knows someone who needs a helping hand or to learn how you can help with your time, talents or donations, call the Second Harvest Food Bank at 949-653-2900, or see feedoc.org.
