Chorus’ Spring Concert set for June

The Buena Park Community Chorus is celebrating its 52nd year with music from famous Broadway shows, with a theme of “Broadway Bound.”
The date is Sunday, June 24, at 3 p.m., at the Walter D. Ehlers Community Center, 8150 Knott Ave.
Some of the songs include “Lullaby of Broadway,” “Memories,” “76 Trombones” and “Over the Rainbow.”
For those who love Broadway shows and tunes, this is a venue that is sure to please. There will be soloists and talented musicians from within the Chorus and at the intermission some desserts to please every palate.
“As always, we hope you will mark your calendar and join us for that afternoon,” said Director Judi Herz. “It’s a concert for the community to come and enjoy.”
Tickets may be purchased at the door; general admission is $10, with $8 for seniors and children; children under 12 are free.
Concerts help to raise money for the chorus’ sheet music.
The Community Chorus was organized more than 50 years ago, organized and directed by John Faller, who recently passed away, for many years; it is now under the very capable direction of Judi Herz, with accompanist Sandy Bron, keyboard accompanist for 20 years who also performs special piano solos during the concerts.
Two other soloists this time are the 42-year-Chorus member Marge Rollins, who will perform, “I Could Have Danced All Night,” from “My Fair Lady,” and Master of Ceremonies Baron Night, who has been with the Chorus for six years, will perform the title song from “Hair.”
Rollins served for many years on the Buena Park Fine Arts Commission and is a current member of the Buena Park Noon Lions Club and Night is a member of the local band Nightshift.
“We welcome new members,” said Herz. “Our rehearsals are Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at the Walter D. Ehlers Event Center. Anyone who loves music may join our Chorus.”
The Chorus will also be part of this year’s City Booth during the annual Concerts in the Park at Boisseranc Park, off of Dale Street, coming up in June.
The Chorus is well-traveled, having performed in the Hawaiian islands several times, western Canada in 1990, Banff Springs Hotel in Canada, the Kamloops in British Columbia and in Victoria, and Vancouver, British Columbia, and locally at the Empress Hotel in La Jolla, Calif.
They have also performed during the Ventura County Strawberry Festival, performing with the Society for the Preservation of American Music Chorus, and performed in Sacramento and Eureka during a Northern California performance trip, along with numerous visits to convalescent hospitals and retirement homes.
The Chorus feels like a family to its members, who have a great time performing and have bonded together, helping and supporting one another over the years.
