The streets of downtown Anaheim will be alive with African-American pride and celebration on Feb. 3 as the 38th annual Orange County Black History Parade & Cultural Faire comes to town.
This fun yearly event, organized by the Orange County Heritage Council, brings together some 8,000 people of all backgrounds to mark the contributions of African-Americans to Anaheim and the county.
Anaheim has proudly hosted the event, the only black history parade in Orange County, since 2011.
The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. with a new route this year. It starts at Walnut Grove Park, at Anaheim Blvd. and Vermont St., and heads up Anaheim Blvd. to East Center St., next to City Hall.
Grand Marshals and ABC7 Eyewitness News morning anchors Leslie Sykes and Phillip Palmer will lead the parade, which features nearly 100 marching bands, parade vehicles, horseback riders, churches, sororities and youth groups, as well as elected officials and community leaders.
Streets along the route will be closed from 10 a.m. to noon.
The street fair begins after the parade and goes to 4 p.m. along Center St. Promenade. It includes a music festival, food vendors, retailers, information booths, Black History exhibits, a college expo and free health screenings.
This event is a celebration of African-American contributions to Orange County and our nation. Whatever your background, it’s a fun-filled day open to all.
