Musco Center for the Arts at Chapman University presents “Beauty and the Beast Live in Concert” on Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m.
The music of Walt Disney’s animated classic, “Beauty and the Beast,” comes to life with a 65-piece orchestra comprised of professionals from the American Federation of Musicians and The Chapman Orchestra. With music from the award-winning score by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Sir Tim Rice, the tale as old as time will dazzle during this cinematic live music experience. “Beauty and the Beast” is the first collaborative performance of the 2018-19 season, uniting students with elite musicians.
“This special screening speaks to and inspires the arts on many levels,” said Richard T. Bryant, Musco Center Executive Director. “Not only is it great fun for the entire community, but it is also a chance for Chapman students to engage with and learn from professional musicians.”
Musco Center offers tremendous opportunities to students of the performing arts. Small groups can work with some of the exemplary artists and scholars performing and presenting throughout the season, which spans jazz, American roots, large-scale special events, and culturally specific performances and festivals.
“‘Beauty and the Beast’ marks the first of many collaborations between our students and professional musicians this season,” said Dr. Giulio Ongaro, Dean of Chapman University’s College of the Performing Arts. “A program like this is extremely valuable for the professional development of our students. Given the importance of orchestral music in the film industry, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is an opportunity for Chapman students to gain hands-on experience in the professional music landscape.”
