Buena Park Youth Theatre is proud to announce its upcoming fall production of “Bye Bye Birdie!”
About the show
It’s the early 1960s and teen heartthrob Conrad Birdie has been drafted into the army, much to the dismay of his adoring fanbase of teenage girls. Worried about his firm, New York based songwriter Albert and his secretary Rose come up with a last-ditch publicity stunt: Conrad will sing a brand new song titled “One Last Kiss” on the Ed Sullivan show and give one lucky member of his fan club a real “last kiss” before going into the army. A loving send-up of the era, small-town America, teenagers and rock and roll, “Bye Bye Birdie” remains as fresh and vibrant as ever.
Auditions
Participants are required to prepare a song in their range (no pop music). An accompanist is provided for those with sheet music, or you may bring a karaoke style CD without a vocal track. A short dance routine will be taught on the day of auditions, so appropriate attire and footwear is strongly encouraged. A dance routine will be taught one time only per audition session, so please be on time. Missing the dance auditions will greatly affect casting decisions.
Rehearsals
Tuesdays/Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Performances will be Nov. 16-18 and 23-25, Friday/Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. There will be a mandatory parents meeting on Saturday, Sept. 9—all program fees are due at the first meeting.
