APD detectives seek witnesses to series of vicious attacks

Anaheim PD homicide detectives are looking for witnesses who may have seen all or portions of a series of vicious attacks which occurred on May 31. At 10:43 a.m., APD received calls of a subject being assaulted in the parking lot of King Pollo, 530 N. State College Blvd. Moments later, additional calls were received of another assault occurring in front of El Pollo Loco, 1098 N. State College Blvd.

While officers were responding, calls were received from witnesses who were following the suspect. Officers were able to detain the suspect in the 1400 block of N. Burton St. after he ran across the SR 91 freeway near State College Boulevard.

A 39-year-old male was seriously injured during the first attack at King Pollo. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition with head trauma. A 37-year-old male suffered severe head trauma during the second attack at El Pollo Loco and was transported to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. He remains in critical condition.

The suspect has been identified as Jacob Anthony Smith, a 28-year-old transient. He was booked at the Anaheim Detention Facility for two counts of attempted murder on $500,000 bail.

The investigation reveals these attacks were random in nature and no suspects are outstanding. The type of weapon involved and the suspect’s booking photo are being withheld due to the ongoing investigation.
